Ministry won't tame Tiger

THE Printworks is maturing into a destination venue worthy of our city, and now City Life learns that the Ministry of Sound empire have entered into the fray, taking over Tiger Tiger for a month-long residency.

Of course, there are no shortage of superclub shenanigans in the city at the moment, what with Pure pulling 'em in every week - not to mention Paparazzi and MTwo dotted about town - but it's always worth checking out what Ministry of Sound are up to if only because they've got such a history - even if much of it involved branding anything that moved for a period.

We're not sure for example that the godfathers of house such as Marshall Jefferson had a `Chillates' DVD in mind when they toiled with their 303s back in the day.

This weekend sees the expansionist state unveiling their Clubbers Summer Guide, bringing you the latest in upfront chart topping tunes from around the world.

'A must for all house lovers', according to the blurb. Forthcoming weeks see their new Housexy night hit town as well spearheaded by DJ Nick Bridges, who mixed the recent eponymous album that hit the shelves last month.

Choice

While many clubs try to go up market up with their choice of venues up down the country in order to appeal to a slightly more mature crowd eager for a little more sophistication, you can't help thinking that MOS might actually have got it right here.

After all, as clubbing is now no longer the domain of sweaty ravers - indeed Twisted Elegance is going great guns - why not choose a venue where you can wine and dine while listening to more upfront sounds. Meanwhile, those looking for more of a guitar bent to their night out, the Friday Night Live session boasts something for up and coming music band spotters.

Local radio DJ Gareth Brooks comperes the night and this week introduces us to up and coming outfit Station Road. Alongside them the DJ will be playing the latest rock and indie guitar sounds along with classic Manchester sounds.

Initial reports recommend the night to those new to the city, which is great news for the enormous influx of students currently motoring their way towards the halls of residence of the city eager to tap into the city's musical heritage and maybe even help create it in the future.
