Cascada brings clubland to Apollo
I feel a huge connection with England due to my heritage” says Natalie Horler, about Cascada’s semi-homecoming.
“My whole family is from England and I spent half my childhood there visiting relatives every summer. I also have a lot of friends, especially in London.”
This October sees the ever-popular singer given an opportunity to catch up as she and her partners in pounding euro dance – Yanou and DJ Manian – come to the UK with a full stage show in tow.
Across two albums, Cascada have won legions of fans with their hi-NRG alcopop sound, a mix of self-penned Euro dance and hugely inappropriate MOR covers (their version of P!nk’s ‘Just Like A Pill’ must be heard to be believed), all set to the same brain-bothering beat.
Put simply, Cascada’s records are like blasts of pure liquid happiness, shot at the face of an increasingly miserable world. Anyone who has ever seen the ecstasy brought on by their simple ‘quiet bit – loud bit – MASSIVELY BANGING BIT’ structure will attest to this.
But enough about the alchemy behind the band. Cascada plan to pummel the pillars of the ornate Apollo later this month. In the meantime, Natalie’s got some things to say...
The live show will be amazing
“We’ve got some special guests to support us on percussion, so I think that will be a lot of fun. I’m also bringing my talented dancers to wow everyone with their moves, so hopefully everyone is as excited about that as I am. Explosions? We’ll see.”
Cacada is not for oldies
“I think the younger generation especially identify with the lyrics and due to the happy-go-lucky feeling provided by the instrumental, we’ve always heard it to be very uplifting for young people.”
Be prepared for things to go a bit mental
“Our shows are always extremely energised, so people who come to see us can expect to have a mad time! I interact with the audience a lot, as it’s important to see who I’m performing for and to entertain everyone as well as possible.”
We would never cover a song we love
“There isn’t a song I could think of right now that we’d want to cover in our style. The songs I adore that much I wouldn’t want to change.”
Scooter are like that in real life
“Scooter are very much as they come across... but in a good way! I’ve only ever had positive experience with other acts. When we did the Clubland tour, they were all so nice. Never kiss and tell, as they say!”
Falling over on stage is rubbish
“I fell off a chair doing a routine once... literally just toppled backward and fell right on my bum! That was embarrassing, I can tell you!”
Don’t drink, it’s bad for your voice
“That’s the best piece of advice I ever ignored.”
Sundays: a bit dull
"I don’t have a week that is ever the same as the last, so I couldn’t pinpoint a most boring day. For me it just doesn’t exist. I do tend to find Sundays a bit dull if I happen to be at home, though.
Cascada plays the Apollo on Friday, October 31. £22.50.
