New home for The Aftershow
AFTER breezing in like a healthy gust of fresh air last autumn, Danny McNamara's live music and club night, The Aftershow, has re-launched at a new home.
The Embrace frontman has decided to up sticks from Ancoats' superclub Sankeys and decamp to the Northern Quarter's hottest new venue, MoHo Live.
Inspired by the success of the Another Music = Another Kitchen night at Camden's Proud Galleries, The Aftershow's remit was to showcase the hottest new acts from Manchester and beyond, plus a smattering of big name players.
Thus far The Magic Numbers, The Sunshine Underground and Badly Drawn Boy have supplemented shows by hot prospects The Ting Tings, The Pistolas and Suzuki Method.
The brain child of John Locke and Ray Cook, MoHo Live opened at the tail end of November and also plays host to El Diablo Social Club, Dave Haslam and Frog & Bucket comedy nights.
On the venue's ethos, Locke said: "We want to create a space that brings something to the community that supports it."
Hailing
McNamara, now a regular face on the Manchester scene despite hailing from across the Pennines, will be hoping the change in venue doesn't detract him from fulfilling his original aim of "making people who weren't planning on dancing go home dripping in sweat and hoarse from singing along!"
IN other news, The Aftershow has - appropriately - bagged the official Aftershow party for Versus Cancer.
Moho will welcome the public into Versus Cancer's post-gig bash for the first time on Saturday.
The night will also mark Brummie Britpop outfit Dodgy's first gig together in the original line-up in 10 years, plus sets from Boy Kill Boy, Example, The Paddingtons and El Policia.
On the news, Andy Rourke, one of the organisers of Versus Cancer said: "We're really excited to have The Aftershow on board and are massively grateful to Danny for organising such a huge after show party for us."
*The night before (Feb 22) will see sets from Four Day Hombre, International One, Bluebird Kid Clark and Carlis Star (tickets are £4, £5).
Versus Cancer is at the M.E.N. Arena on Saturday, February 23 and includes performances from The Fratellis, Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets and Fun Lovin' Criminals. Tickets are priced at £40 and are available from Ticketmaster, See Tickets and Ticketline. For more information visit
