Charlatans latest addition to cancer bill

THE Charlatans are the latest act confirmed for the Versus Cancer charity gig.

The Manchester band will join Echo And The Bunnymen and Ian Brown at the M.E.N. Arena on March 30.

Ex-Smiths bassist Andy Rourke was inspired to organise the first Versus Cancer concert last year to raise money to fight cancer as his manager's sister, Nina Rehman, battled against the disease.

He said: "I saw the band in Blackpool and asked if they would be available to play."

The highlight of last year's show was Andy's performance with ex-bandmate Johnny Marr for the first time in almost 20 years.

Money went to Christie Hospital and a campaign highlighting the importance of checking for the disease.
