Manchester's top for rock gigs

GREATER Manchester has hosted no less than five of the world's greatest 100 gigs ever, according to a magazine poll.

Readers of hard rock and metal magazine Kerrang! voted for their favourite ever shows and chose Manchester gigs by Lostprophets, System Of A Down, Audioslave and Blink 182.

The other local gig chosen was possibly the smallest on the whole chart - Green Day's gig at The Den in Wigan in December 1991, when the punk-pop trio re-enacted the nativity scene.

Green Day's gig in Milton Keynes earlier this summer was voted the best ever, closely followed by shows from Slipknot and Metallica.
