Calling unsigned talent
THE club which helped launch Oasis as global rock stars is looking for the cream of unsigned musical talent to follow in the Gallagher brothers' footsteps.Budding rock stars have the opportunity to strut their stuff and show their musical talent in the Boddingtons YGG Unsigned show at the Palace nightclub in Levenshulme.
Some of Manchester's most famous bands have played the venue - Badly Drawn Boy, The Smiths and the Doves - and it was the place that launched the Gallagher brothers on the road to superstardom.
The tape the brothers sent in to enter the competition is still kept in the club's musical archives.
The talent search, a highlight of Manchester's Irish Festival, is now one of the UK's biggest showcases and for the winners there is over é1,000 worth of prizes and two days' recording time in a studio.
Heats take place on February 13, 21 and 22 with the final in March. For any band wishing to enter the competition at least one member has to have Irish roots (either parents or grandparents).
