Victoria return to Contact

FOR All The Wrong Reasons, the land-mark collaboration between Belgium's Victoria theatre company and Contact, was an outstanding part of last year's Manchester International Festival.

Now the award-winning Victoria theatre company return to Contact with That Night Follows Day, a collaboration with Tim Etchells, the Artistic Director of Forced Entertainment.

Victoria invited Etchells to create a performance "made with children, but for adults", so That Night Follows Day features a cast of seventeen children aged between 8 and 14 years.

It is the very first time that Etchells or Victoria have worked with a cast like this and the process began with over 150 hours worth of interviews conducted with numerous school children, from which Etchells developed the totally original script.

The result amounts to a catalogue of the many ways our lives are defined for us from an early age by the older generations. The piece consists simply of one line exclamations and sur-titles as a 'Greek chorus' of children interrogate the many truisms that shape the world for adults as well as adolescents. As it progresses, it examines systems of parenthood, upbringing, discipline, and care.

That Night Follows Day is at Contact until Saturday, May 10.
