New plays, new talent

SALFORD Arts Theatre is under new management and is putting on a series of new plays to celebrate.

New managers, Roni Ellis and Scott Berry are hoping to use the theatre to showcase new playwriting talent in the North West, and the next play is The Summerlands, written by Laurie Rea.
"It's an urban, supernatural, black comedy," said Laurie, who is directing the play himself.
Rea has been a regular on the Manchester theatre scene and was most recently in Karry Owky, playing bar regular Baz, but this is his first time directing a full play.
"We have assembled a talented cast; Ellie Griffiths, Zoe Nicholas, James Boyland, Darren Langford and Terry Naylor, and they are making the whole process much easier," said Laurie, "but I can't say it's an enjoyable experience!"

The next play to feature at the theatre will be Double Click by Sally Lawton fresh from her success at the 24/7 theatre festival.
The Summerlands runs at the Salford Arts Theatre, Kemsing Walk, M5 4BS, 27th - 29th March. Tickets £5 on door or call 0161 925 0111.
