Johnny tops US charts at last

MANCHESTER rock legend Johnny Marr has topped the US album chart for the first time in his 24-year career.

The former Smiths guitarist's new album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, recorded in collaboration with American experimentalists Modest Mouse, has snatched the No 1 spot within days of being released.

Johnny, 43, said: "It feels great, a really lovely surprise - the whole band are buzzed. This is really gratifying."

Johnny is looking forward to Friday's Versus Cancer show at the M.E.N. Arena, organised by Smiths band-mate Andy Rourke.

The album is out now.
