Invitation To The Ballet: Ninette de Valois And The Story Of The Royal Ballet
Sat 23 October - Sun 6 March, free entry

The Lowry and the Royal Opera House have teamed up to present the most comprehensive exhibitions about the The Royal Ballet ever staged.

Drawn almost exclusively from the Collections of the Royal Opera House, it tells the remarkable story of one of the towering figures of twentieth-century ballet, Ninette de Valois, and her journey from impersonating Anna Pavlova in English seaside pier theatres to founding one of the world’s leading dance companies.

Costumes worn by some of the greatest names in ballet, from Darcey Bussell to Margot Fonteyn, are shown alongside photographs, films and set designs to create a truly 360-degree view of the glorious history of The Royal Ballet.

With rarely seen sketches from LS Lowry himself, inspired by de Valois’ Coppélia, this incredible exhibition is a genuine must-see.
