Preview: Wednesday / Baby Jesus Freak

Wednesday: The Lowry Studio - August 7 and 8, 2010.

Baby Jesus Freak: The Preston Tringe Festival at The Continental, South Meadow Lane - July 24 and 25, 2010.

Theatre company Ballon Head was founded by writer, producer and journalist Ian Winterton in 2009 and their first production was a double-bill of Wednesday and Paradise Wood at Studio Salford.

Since then, the company has produced a number of short plays, including Shoelace at the Not Part Of New Year fringe festival. Their last play, the sex comedy Tag Team, even had the dubious privilege of being dubbed “terrific ... sexy and sweary” by this very writer.

Now Wednesday has been picked up by The Lowry, and it’s due to play in their studio in early August, after which it will enjoy a 21-date run at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival.

They’ve also just become an in-house company at Studio Salford, as Ian has new a 10-part drama called Adolf Killed My Sweetheart in production with South Manchester community radio station ALL FM - and they have a brand-new play, Baby Jesus Freak, which will be part of The Preston Tringe Festival after appearing at the Lass O’Gowrie’s Lass Fest.

Drunk at his mother’s funeral, Born-Again Christian Daniel accidentally sleeps with non-believer Lauren. Putting his mistake behind him, he promptly falls in love with Bethany. But, proving that God definitely has a sense of humour, Lauren phones with the unwelcome and unexpected news, that she’s pregnant. Meanwhile, Daniel’s alcoholic, atheist brother, Matt, is being visited by Ruth, who claims she's his unborn niece.
