The Enchanted Pig - a musical family fairytale
ADVERTORIAL
Following its hugely successful Christmas run at the Royal Opera House and its New York debut at the New Victory Theater, The Enchanted Pig, a musical fairytale for all the family, will tour the UK this spring, including two performances at the Royal Northern College Of Music (RNCM) during the Easter holidays.
Once upon a time, three princesses unlocked a secret door and opened the Book of Fate…and so the story begins.
Beauty meets beast when Princess Flora, the youngest daughter of King Hildebrand, learns her husband-to-be is not a King, but the hairy, smelly, Pig. When a wicked witch abducts her pig of a husband, Flora sets out to rescue him and, with plenty of advice along the way from the Sun, Moon and North Wind, proves that love conquers all. And they all live happily after.
Composer Jonathan Dove and writer Alasdair Middleton have created a witty, modern fairytale that will appeal to the whole family. Based on a mixture of Romanian, Norwegian and classical folk stories, Dove’s playful score brings the moon, the stars and the Milky Way to vivid musical life while Alasdair Middleton’s wonderfully witty lyrics will tickle children and adults alike.
The cast includes a mixture of operatic and musical theatre talents including Susan Boyd, Michelle Cornelius, Beverly Klein, Karina Lewis, Kate Nelson, Terel Nugent, Jo Servi, Tom Solomon and Simon Wilding, Directed by The Opera Group’s Artistic Director John Fulljames with designs by Dick Bird, lighting by Bruno Poet and choreography by Philippe Giraudeau.
The Enchanted Pig is a co-production between The Opera Group, ROH2 and Young Vic.
