Here at CityLife, we love anagrams. And we also love Alberta Cross, the alt-folk blues rockers from Sweden and London.

So imagine our excitement when we discovered that Alberta Cross is not just the band’s name but it’s also an amagram. Excited? Not ’alf CityLifers. And so like good students, we knuckled down to puzzle it out.

Stables or arcs? Lab rats score, perhaps? Lacrosse brat?

Whatever it was, we’re not surprised they settled for Alberta Cross because nothing else we’ve come up sounds half as zingy...

The ’Cross head out back on the road to promote their debut album this week, and in truth we’ve had a long time to twiddle our thumbs and work out those anagrams since we heard from them last.

Their mini-album, the outstanding The Thief & The Heartbreaker, came out almost three years ago and it took until last September to get their first full length – Broken Side Of Time – out on uber-cool indie imprint Ark.

But what a record; when it’s not punching you in the face with blues rock, it’s singing you heartbroken lullabies.

Anyone wanting that kind of trip through the emotional wringer can get it at the Night & Day tonight.
