Our vibrant Northern Quarter seems be bucking the downward trend in the health of food and drink outlets.
Two new ventures have started up there: Thomas Restaurant And Bar, on (yes, you guessed it) Thomas Street, and coffee shop and art gallery Grindsmith, on Hilton Street.
Thomas (thomasrestaurant.co.uk) has been created by the people behind NQ’s ever-popular Cord Bar and the menu shows it will have an accent on fun and value for money.
It also seems that there will be as much emphasis on the bar as the kitchen. It opens fully on Tuesday, March 16.
Grindsmith uses the unusual ‘siphon’ process of making coffee, which was invented in Germany 150 years ago. Sounds interesting.
And the NQ’s wonderfully rejuvenated Band On The Wall has opened up a cafe bar with a very attractive offer: free ‘lucky dip’ concert tickets with every £10 meal booked in advance. For more information go to bandonthewall.org.
