Preview: Elvis Presley Live In Concert

The phenomenal success of Elvis Presley: Live In Concert would baffle the most obliging of critics.

The King is dead – but thanks to this reassembly of musicians that once staffed Elvis' bands, it's a case of 'long live the King'.

The basic set up is this: an entirely live 16-piece orchestra boasting original members of the TCB Band and Elvis' backing singers The Imperials and The Sweet Inspirations, plus a venue-high video screen bringing Elvis himself back from the dead.

The screens show edited versions of famous performances – including the 68 Comeback Special and his Vegas years – with all but Elvis' voice digitally removed from the footage.

Now in its 13th year on the road and still playing to packed arenas, there's little sign of this gig running out of steam. Which is testament to the significance that Presley still plays in modern music, of course, as well as an acknowledgment of how good the players he chose for his bands were.

MEN Arena - February 26, 2010 - £33.50/£35.
