Contact hosts a show for Haiti

THE terrible loss of life in Haiti following the recent devastating earthquake has touched people all over the world.

Manchester has been quick to do its bit – be that through fundraising or hands-on help – and this weekend Contact Theatre throws its hat in the ring with Uprising, a night of theatre, spoken word and music with all proceeds going to the Haiti Disaster Relief Fund.

Hosted by hip hop stars Ty and Benji Reid plus Contact’s artistic director Baba Israel, Uprising will feature performances from Contact’s network of next generation talent and other local performers, including Eggs Collective, Shot In The Dark, Pen-ultimate, Lyrical Soul, Young Identity and Bloco Novo.

Uprising will also present pieces from Contact’s exciting free regular events with moments of its open-stage dance event, Mixed Movement, its lyrical freestyle session RAW (Rhythm & Words) and its improvisational theatre, music and movement night Contact Playback.

Contact Theatre - January 30, 2010 - £5 (100 per cent of proceeds to Haiti Disaster Relief Fund).
