Have tea and a chat with Stuart Maconie

IT’S official: Stuart Maconie is a Mastermind. It’s a fact we long suspected, but his holiday time win on the BBC programme proved once and for all that Wigan-born and bred Maconie is the kind of man you want on your pub quiz team.

His broad and extensive knowledge is, of course, born of an eclectic career in broadcasting and print: as a journalist for the NME, Q, The Times and the like, and then as a radio DJ for the Beeb.

On top of that, he’s a championed author and sharp satirist, and it’s those two talents that he’s brought together for his latest book, Adventures On The High Teas: In Search Of Middle England.

Of course, there’s no better way to experience a novel than hearing it read by the author. And that’s just what Maconie will be doing when he drops in to the Museum Of Science and Industry on Sunday afternoon.

He’ll also be answering audience questions and talking about the anecdotes, observations and divided opinions he encountered during his research.

MOSI - January 10, 2010 (3pm) - £8 (price includes traditional cream tea).
