Coming in 2010: Comedy
IT'S been another eventful year on the comedy circuit. The live scene in Manchester has been as healthy as ever during 2009 and comedians continue to be in demand for TV work, raising their live profile even further – after all where would channel Dave be if it wasn’t for the stand up?
And 2010 looks set to continue the trend. The Lowry already has an impressive line-up in place: punk veteran Henry Rollins, Count Arthur, Edinburgh Comedy Award Nominee 2009 Tom Wrigglesworth, Julian Clary, Tim Vine, Pappy’s Fun Club, Chris Addison, Sean Lock, Lee Mack, Dara O’Briain and Rhod Gilbert are booked in.
The Dancehouse is gearing up with solo shows from Canadian Stewart Francis, James Sherwood and Sarah Millican. Armstrong and Miller reunite later in the year, Frankie Boyle tours and at the Arena of course the big news is that Peter Kay has announced a record string of dates.
But never mind all the big acts, the places they played before they were famous are open every week, all year around.
The likes of XSMalarkey every Tuesday in Fallowfield, Mirth on Monday in Chorlton, The Frog And Bucket, the Comedy Store, Agraman who ran the legendary Buzz club, still runs gigs in the area and the likes of Rob Riley run ones too – check out Ferry at Space Cadets. Can’t wait!
