Support the homeless when you eat out

WITH the company Christmas do at the top of secretary in-trays across the city, it seems the right time to give a seasonal helping hand to those less fortunate.

From Sunday (November 1) until New Year the annual StreetSmart campaign – backed by the Manchester Evening News – raises money for homeless charities in restaurants across the city, and in 18 other cities nationwide.

Over the next two months, diners in participating restaurants will be asked to add £1 to their bill.

The campaign is in its 11th year and in 2008 it raised £435,000 nationally this way, with 95 homeless charities benefiting across Britain.

Once winter emergency needs have been met, StreetSmart funds projects, including giving people in Manchester allotments to grow produce.

Noddy ‘Mr Chrisssssmasss’ Holder is backing the campaign and says: “While tucking into a lovely meal inside a cosy restaurant, spare a thought for those without the luxury of even having a home. Please support this simple scheme.”
