Mumford & Sons - early contenders for Mercury?
EVERYONE loves a multitasker, and right now CityLife doesn’t love many multifaceted musicians more than Marcus Mumford.
Frontman with Mumford & Sons (pictured) and drummer for alt-folk superstar Laura Marling, he’s the kind of musical throwback that makes every 21-year-old’s head spin – from turn of the 20th century folk to Civil War Americana and Bluegrass, African beats and modern day balladry.
There’s clear parallels to be drawn with Marling or other fellow London scenesters Noah & The Whale – a comparison sure to be cemented by the release of the band’s debut album Sigh No More next month.
And while it might be a little early to call it, we’re expecting the band to go the same way as Marling and end up as an early contender for next year’s Mercury Prize.
Mumford & Sons play the Ruby Lounge on Monday, September 14. SOLD OUT. Call 0161 832 1111 to check for returns.
