Best of British on show in Bolton

SOME of Britain’s best the UK’s best writers, actors and directors will descend on Bolton’s Octagon Theatre on Saturday.

They will be there for an for an exciting new event, called Who Needs Writers? 

Playwright David Edgar will host the day, starting at 10am, which will includes and including a matinee performance of the Octagon’s new play, Mixed Up North, as well as a series of other performances, discussions and professional insights.

David Edgar, one of the most prolific dramatists of the post-1960s generation, has had in Great Britain, having had more than 60 of his plays performed on stage, television and radio.

He will be joined by the Octagon’s new artistic director David Thacker, as well as Mixed Up North director Max Stafford-Clark (the only living practitioner on the current A-level syllabus for drama/performing arts students!) and playwright Alecky Blythe – the Founder and Artistic Director of Recorded Delivery, a verbatim theatre company acclaimed for its ground-breaking productions.

There will also be performances from actors from the Octagon Theatre company.

Investigate days are new to the Octagon and are set to become.

They encourage the analysis and investigation into plays and the issues that arise from them.

These are regular day-long Saturday events.

“This is an event unique to the Octagon,” Thacker emphasises, “and a chance to get up close with some truly great theatre practitioners and discuss some of the burning issues in theatre today.”
