Marissa's Edinburgh Fringe Blog - The Farewell

HADRIAN\'S WALL, HERE I COME!: Marissa HADRIAN'S WALL, HERE I COME!: Marissa

WELL that’s it then I suppose. Time for home. It’s been eventful as ever.

There’s not so many impromptu stage appearance from Burgess this year but plenty of dodging down ‘wynds’ (alleys or ginnels to us lot) from performers awarded just one or two stars by me.

The final days of the festival have thrown up a few further gems. On Thursday Dave from The Dancehouse blagged me into the Dutch absurdist Hans Teeuwen’s show as he plays their venue there during the Manchester Comedy Festival.

So I sat, in a big purple cow (it’s the venue, only at the Fringe…) mesmerised, tickled and unnerved in equal parts by a man who is an apparent household name in his native Holland – only the Dutch could pull such a barmpot to their busom.

His set featured, amongst other things, a naked puppet show, Teeuwen in expensive suit performing roly polys like a primary school child on the floor then finished leading a sing-a-long which involved a refrain that I probably can’t get away with repeating here but basically celebrated the female and, in the interests of equality, male genitalia.
Managed to check out two of the Eddies Award nominations.

Tom Wrigglesworth’s told the story of his moral intervention on a train from Manchester to London when a little old lady was charged £115 for having the wrong ticket.

It’s a funny and heart-warming story and also the beginning of a campaign led by Wrigglesworth to reduce unfair train prices.

Sign the petition here www.lenaslaw.co.uk. And of course our own adopted Scouser, the lovely John Bishop and his show Elvis Has Left The Building received a nod for his poignant examination of the father/son relationship as seen through Bishop’s usual, laidback and ever witty look at the world.

Any way that’s enough for this year. See you all back in Manc, I’m off for a lie down.
