Blooming eck... Who can help?

THEY'RE used to rolling out the red carpet at Manchester town hall but this summer they'll be rolling out a carpet of flowers in Albert Square.

The blooms will cover 900 square metres to mark Manchester In Bloom. Manchester-based artist Jo Vickers has designed an intricate pattern for the display, which will be on show from July 16-20.

But with a massive 60,000 flowers being used, Jo is in need of help. Organisers reckon 100 volunteers will be needed daily to help Jo complete the work on July 14 and 15.

Jo, a former art student at Xaverian College in Rusholme, has been working on the design since December 2007.

Anyone able to help should contact Manchester International Arts on 0161 224 0020 or anne@streetsahead.org.uk
