Band On The Wall reveals full line-up

THE waiting is almost over. Four years after closing and two since a £4m renovation project began, Band On The Wall will finally re-open in September – and it has just confirmed its full run of autumn shows.

From soul siren Mica Paris on the opening night bash and post-punk survivors A Certain Ratio to re-jigged Mercury Music Prize nominees The Unthanks and Jazz troubadour Gwyneth Herbert, it’s a typically eclectic mix from the much-loved, much-missed Northern Quarter nightspot.

The cornerstones of Manchester's music scene for the greater part of the last century, BOTW was at the centre of the local punk scene in the late 1970s where Buzzcocks, The Fall and Joy Division first played.

Now buoyed by an Arts Council grant, the Inner City Music ran establishment is looking forward to brand new lease of life in 2009.

 Mike Chadwick, music programmer for the Swan Street venue christened after the stage acts used to play on, said: “Having confirmed great artists like Mica Paris, Julian Joseph and The Unthanks it is great to see even more seasoned and well known performers from around the world coming to play here in Manchester.”

New facilities including a state-of-the-art sound system and concert grand piano, an education suite from where a series of initiatives with local schools and colleges will be run, plus audio-visual and sound studios and its new multi-use social space, the Picturehouse.
