FANS of West End legend Michael Ball are in for a treat.

As well as his own solo show at Manchester Apollo in October, I can reveal the star is to reprise his role in ‘60s musical Hairspray at the city’s Opera House next year.

He The bouffanted- blonde star will once again don the big hair and bold dresses to star as larger-than-life heroine Edna Turnblad, a performance that delighted thousands of fans in the West End run of the show.

The musical, which was also a hit 2007 movie with Zac Efron and John Travolta as Edna, will undertake its first UK tour, calling at Manchester from July 13 to 31.

Tickets go on sale from Monday, and theatre staff are bracing themselves for another buying frenzy on the scale of the recent queues for Les Miserables tickets.

Michael says: “Hairspray is a great experience and the chance to have just a few more nights in those frocks was an opportunity I couldn’t miss!”
