Village FC on the lookout for new players

VILLAGE FC: Pre-season training VILLAGE FC: Pre-season training

LOCAL football team Village FC is hoping to go on a City-style signing spree ahead of the new season, we can exclusively reveal.

The hunt for new players has seen manager Jason McAuley putting a call out to other gay football players who may be reluctant to don a pair of shin pads and get stuck in to the game of two halves.

“We want to raise awareness and hopefully to encourage other gay footballers out there to contact us and get involved with the club in the coming season,” he told CityLife.

Village FC players Jay, Craig and Simon (pictured above) said: “We take our football almost as seriously as our partying, and that’s very seriously indeed!

“Joking aside, we’ve already begun pre season fitness training. The manager keeps us on our toes and pushes us quite hard but it will all be worth it when we start our competitive matches”.

Friendly matches

The team’s pre-season programme will include several friendly matches between now and the start of the new season in September.

It’s going to be an exciting and hectic season for the boys, beginning with a run at the Umbro International Cup, which will be held here in Manchester at the end of July, before their season starts proper at the beginning of September.

Village FC are also setting their sights firmly towards travelling to (and, they say, hopefully winning) the 2010 Gay Football World Cup which takes place as part of the Gay Games event in Cologne, Germany in July next year.

If you already play football or have had a break from the game and would like to get back into it, grab your boots and get in touch with Jason at the club via the link on the right hand side of this page.
