CityLife

Lowry to showcase all things Eccles

PUTTING ECCLES IN SPOTLIGHT: The Lowry PUTTING ECCLES IN SPOTLIGHT: The Lowry

A SLICE of Eccles life will be on offer at The Lowry this Sunday when a Salford arts complex hands over its various spaces to an outreach programme.

Entertainment will fill The Lowry from 3pm as the event celebrates the culmination of a 14-month out-reach programme, Walkabout, in the city’s suburb.

The Lowry’s Circle Bar will become a huge marquee. The balcony overlooking the plaza will be transformed into a working allotment with top tips on all things green from Tindall and Clevelys allotment holders.

Mini performances about the history of Eccles will be performed by Barton Theatre Company.

Meanwhile, poised to fill the balconies and escalators with song are the Lewis Street Primary school, Monton Voices and a specially created choir.

There will be a performance from Eccles Borough Band and a film created earlier this year by Winton residents will be shown in the Lyric theatre.

Sketched

The afternoon’s events will also be sketched by an artist resembling LS Lowry. It all culminates with a mass dance performance and angelic voices from the bridge.

Walkabout aims to use creative activity to develop opportunities for participation and social engagement among Salford’s communities.

A Slice of Eccles brings together all the community groups the Walkabout team have worked with during their time in Eccles.

The production incorporates the diversity of the area and draws on the past to look at the future of Eccles. Walkabout receives support from Barton Fairshare, Salford City Council and Eccles Community Committee.

Tickets are free and must be reserved in advance from The Lowry’s box office on (0870 787 5793).
