Laughing Badger - art, chutney and beer collide!
GLOSSOP brewery Howard Town has been commissioned to make a special brew for new pictures and chutney emporium the Laughing Badger Gallery in Padfield, Derbyshire.
And the branded Laughing Badger Beer will contain a special ingredient – rowan berries, which in their raw state are poisonous.
But brewery owner Tony Hulme was quick to point out that once the berries are cooked they lose all toxicity, and the gallery owner is supplying the rowans in a syrup form, which he makes himself, to mix with Howard Town’s usual Dinting Arches bitter.
The ale, in bottles, will be available at the launch of the gallery on Friday, July 3, and is going to be stocked at delis and off-licences and hopefully the gallery itself.
Wheat beer
As for the art and chutneys? Laughing Badger Gallery owner Sean Wood , who writes a wildlife column for MEN Media and paints in bright, bold colours, has been making his own chutneys for years. It seemed logical to sell them, too.
On top of the Laughing Badger Beer, awrd-winning Howard Town is also producing two more new beers in July.
On Saturday and Sunday July 4/5 at the Glossop Weekend In The Park carnival, the brewery will be unveiling WeissPeak, a strong draught wheat beer, which will be the beer of the month for the Stockport CAMRA group.
Meanwhile, the Praze deli in Glossop will start selling bottles of In Praze of Beer ale, specially brewed for them by Howard Town to celebrate their first birthday.
