Back Door Music Project lines-up summer of music

FEELIN\' GOOD: Tim and Sam\'s Band FEELIN' GOOD: Tim and Sam's Band

AFTER receiving a welcome boost to its profile last year, thanks to a major feature on Channel 4’s hit documentary, Secret Millionaire, Rochdale’s Back Door Music Project will step things up this summer as it continues its bid to engage the town’s teenage community.

A fully equipped live music venue/hall doubling as a workshop area and recording studio, BDMP aims to focus kids from all walks of life in the local area with a plethora of activities, including;  instrument tuition, songwriting workshops, engineering, photography and urban art or even just as a relaxed and safe place to just hang out and be yourself.

A season of gigs will now kick-off in July with a host of fast-rising local talent either taking to the stage or bidding for new-found success.

First up, funded by Youth Music and TakepART, on July 3, Rhythms of Rochdale at the Broadwater Centre will see a mixture of live music from around the world performed by young musicians (£3, 01706 6641944).

The following week, the BDMP will play a major role in the town’s Feel Good Festival when they host indie kids Tim & Sam’s Band, Spokes and Magic Arm (July 11).

Finally, July 24 will see Battle Of The Bands 2009 launch in earnest (with further heats on August 7 and 21, Contact Carol on 07989085034).

Featuring bands solely from the borough of Rochdale, you may even spot a diamond in the rough take their first tentative steps on the way to stardom.
