Angel Of The North model at Chatsworth

Chatsworth House Chatsworth House

IN time for returning from the summer holiday abroad, Sotheby’s leading outdoor selling exhibition Beyond Limits will launch at Chatsworth on September 14.

Modern works from a multitude of renowned international and home-grown sculptors will be set among the gardens of Chatsworth’s house, in the heart of Derbyshire’s Peak District, just near to the scenic town of Bakewell.

Among the art on show, visitors will have the chance to see a cast iron, life-size preliminary model for the famous Angel Of The North sculpture. The example at Chatsworth which you’ll be able to see this autumn is a cast from the limited edition of the final artwork.

Previous sales have proven that these works in progress are often as sought after as the completed works, allowing purchasers an insight into the development process of sculptures. A different cast from this limited edition recently sold for just over £2 million last year.

Affordable

With all exhibits on display from 11am to 6pm every day, and completely free to see beyond the usual garden admission (a standard adult ticket costs only £7.50), it’s an affordable event open to most people.

On October 10 there’s also a sculpture tour giving an expert view on the sculpture of Beyond Limits and the historic pieces which have become part of what makes the Chatsworth experience.

At £28 per person or £45 for two of you, it is a bit more pricey, but you get tea and coffee as well as entry to the house and gardens thrown in.

Although only a short drive away from Manchester, you could easily make a weekend of it if you wanted to stay in one of the B&Bs or hotels on site.
