Not Part Of: The North will Rise Again

MAN ABOUT TOWN: Robb MAN ABOUT TOWN: Robb

AN evening based on a new book (Aururm Press, 2009) by the Blackpool punk/journalist, John Robb charts the Post-Punk landscape of The Buzzcocks and Magazine through to the Madchester explosion and the goliath rise of Brit-Pop.

Familiar ground maybe, but an extraordinary story, freshly told through the creative voices who witnessed this flux and fury and the history-makers themselves. This is a spirited and thorough oral tapestry of our city’s celebrated musical milieu (1976-1996).

The evening’s special events include a panel discussion with The Courteeners’ manager, Conrad Murray, revered remixer, Johnny Jay, and of course, Robb himself. More tbc...

But it’s not all retrospective rumination. Stick around after for live performances from acoustic singer-songwriter James Kelly, dub act Dirty North and some rock ‘n’ roll from The Words. Check out their MySpace pages for a taster of these local new talents.
