Umami: The Fifth Sense Tasting Sessions at Walrus

Seeaking that Fifth Sense Seeaking that Fifth Sense

WALRUS Canteen and Bar, in the Northern Quarter has launched an exciting new food and wine tasting evening, named after the Japanese term - ‘Umami’, which translates ‘The Fifth Sense’.

The Japanese have used this word long before the western world were even aware of it, and our bodies are designed to appreciate and even crave the Umami taste said to be present in Japanese essential ingredients such as soya sauce, dashi stock and mirin.

The Fifth Sense tasting evening is designed to enable guests to sample many different flavours and dishes from Walrus’  Thai-Japanese Canteen.

It runs every last Wednesday of the month. Guests are guided through six courses each matched with a different wine.

Fabulous treatment package

The next tasting session is at 7pm on June 24. Half of all tickets sales will be donated to Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley.

There will be a raffle draw at 10pm on the evening with prizes from independent boutiques and shops in the Northern Quarter.

Prizes include a fabulous treatment package for two from Inner Sanctuary, a retro styling party at Rags to Bitches, men’s clothing from Thomas St Post Office, champagne and a meal for two.

Walrus, High Street, Manchester (0161 828 8700).
