Belgian beer guide salutes city pubs

Fringe Bar Fringe Bar

PUBS and bars in the north west which specialise in Belgian beer have been trumpeted in a new comprehensive guide.

Good Beer Guide Belgium, produced by the Campaign For Real Ale, is a exhaustive encyclopaedia of Belgian beers and breweries and details of more than 600 cafes, bars, brasseries and bistros across the country.

And there is also a section dedicated to outlets in Britain which specialise in the varied craft beers from across the water.

Fringe Bar, on Manchester’s Swan Street, is described as “the longest standing Belgian beer outlet in the city centre”, while the New Oxford, on Bexley Square, Salford, is “the rising star of the Manchester beer scene”.

There are also inclusions for Belgian Belly, on Wilbraham Road, Chorlton, and Trappiste, on Greenwood Street, Altrincham, which the guide describes as “the most authentic Belgian-style beer café in the country”.

The guide, written by Tim Webb, costs £14.99 and is published by Camra.
