Learn about wine with Paul Heathcote
FOR those of us who routinely slosh our wine over the sides of the glass in an attempt to appear sophisticated before ‘tasting’ our bottles of house white, celebrity chef Paul Heathcote may be able to help us out!
Starting on July 16 at the chef’s own restaurant, Grado, near Piccadilly, the course aims to teach anyone and everyone the rudiments of opening, pouring and tasting wines like a pro.
And best of all, it’s free!
Heathcote says the idea came from the realisation that an increasing number of people were showing interest in expanding their wine knowledge.
“We’ve designed a programme of events so people can increase their knowledge, enjoy some fantastic cooking and have a great time,” says Heathcote.
Having already won the Best Wine List accolade at the Manchester Food & Drink Awards, the Spanish themed restaurant is the perfect host for the monthly evening. Serving pre-paid meals and a selection of different wines, the course will aim to cover topics such as regions, grape varieties and how to choose the perfect wine.
With the latter in mind, Gary Scott, wine buyer for Grado explains the idea further: “Each wine is chosen because of its ability to deliver true quality at the right price. I am delighted that so many of the wines we have chosen to present have been honoured.’
In fact, 13 of Grado’s wines impressed at the Sommelier Wine Awards, with 6 making it onto the gold list.
Look out for one of these winners on the menu; CityLife reccommends the Fernando de Castilla Antique Oloroso NV.
