Novelist Ian McEwan's opera to be performed at the RNCM
BOOKER prize winner Ian McEwan is probably best known for being the man behind 2007's hit film Atonement, but he's about to hit the headlines for something, erm, a little different.
Teaming up with leading composer Michael Berkeley to write his first opera libretto, McEwan's For You premiered at the Royal Opera House last autumn - and is heading to Manchester on Thursday June 25.
For You focuses upon the tragic relationship between a brilliant composer and his besotted housekeeper, and contains all the elements of a classic McEwan novel: a contemporary situation, destructive desire and lives altered forever by an error of perception.
Brought to Manchester by the internationally renowned Music Theatre Wales, the original cast will be joined by three new singers, directed by Michael McCarthy and conducted by Michael Rafferty (Joint Artistic Directors of the company).
For You is at the RNCM Theatre, 124 Oxford Road, Manchester at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £15 (£12 concs) and are available from www.rncm.ac.uk or by calling the Box Office on 0161 907 5555
