Melvyn Bragg to join Amis for suicide talks

Melvyn Bragg Melvyn Bragg

IN what is sure to be a fascinating, if not particularly jolly, evening's worth of intellectual stimulation, Martin Amis will be joined by writer and broadcaster Melvyn Bragg and the poet Al Alvarez to discuss the literary theme of suicide on Friday 3 July.

Amis's celebrated 1984 novel, Money: A Suicide Note sees its 25th anniversary this year. He returned to the theme in later works and Alvarez and Bragg equally are no strangers to the subject.

Bragg's first wife Lisa Roche took her own life when he left her after 10 years of marriage and he has spoken on the subject with characteristic candour in the past.

Martin Amis' Literature and Suicide event with Al Alvarez and Melvyn Bragg will take place at University Place on Oxford Road at 6.30pm on Friday, July 3. For more information visit the link to the right of the page.
