Nigel Haworth to cook main course at Great British Menu banquet

CONGRATULATIONS to Nigel Haworth who will be cooking the main course at the Great British Menu dinner for British troops home from Afghanistan.

The Northcote chef’s sophisticated, lighter take on Lancashire hot-pot conquered seven other dishes from rival chefs on the BBC2 cook-off show. It made up for his disappointment in just missing out in last year’s final round.

The dish, which wowed both professional judges and the voting public, was made with local carrots and leeks and with roasted Lonk Lamb from Rod Spence’s Burholme Farm in Whitewell, Bowland.

“With the warmer summer months in mind, I’ve made this a lighter dish than usual,” commented Nigel.

“But to me it remains a perfect homecoming dish. It’s a classic regional favourite, full of heritage and local provenance. Part of the backbone of Britain.”

Four winning dishes, starter, fish, main and pudding  will be to served to the troops at a special banquest  at Halton House, Bucks.

Nigel’s own four entries  are currently on the menu at his Michelin Starred Northcote restaurant near Whalley.
