Roses singles to get re-released too
THERE’S good news for fans left smarting by the news tabloid rumours of a Stone Roses reunion were just that.
As, as well a 20th anniversary edition of their seminal debut offering being released this summer, four of their singles will get the re-release treatment too.
Originally released on May 2, 1989 – The Stone Roses' eponymous first album is cited by many for kick-starting the Nineties and the halcyon Britpop period that followed, proving massively influential for big hitting artists Oasis, The Verve, Texas and Manic Street Preachers.
So to mark the passing of two decades, original producer John Leckie returned to the studio with frontman Ian Brown to remaster the album, which will be released via Silvertone/Legacy on August 10.
The first edition, Stone Roses: Special Edition, will include the remastered album with an expanded booklet.
The Lost Demos
The second, Stone Roses: Legacy Edition, will feature the revamped album along with a second CD titled 'The Lost Demos', which features 15 tracks including the previously unreleased 'Pearl Bastard' and the legendary 'Live In Blackpool’ concert DVD. It will be packaged inside a 28-page booklet.
Finally, the third, Stone Roses: Collectors Edition, will include the album, the 'Lost Demos' disc and a third CD of B-sides and non-album singles.
Fool's Good
It will also come with a 12-inch album folder with three vinyl LPs including the original album,13 B-sides and non-album tracks housed in a gold foil-embossed hardback slipcase plus a lemon-shaped USB containing Stone Roses promo videos, ringtones, wallpapers and previously released John Leckie home video footage of the recording of 'Fool’s Gold'.
Prior to that four classic singles will also hit the shops; Elephant Stone (with limited edition & individually numbered box, plus five art prints - July 6), Made Of Stone (July 13), She Bangs The Drums (July 20), Fools Gold (July 27) and One Love (August 3).
Early this year mercurial guitarist John Squire slammed Daily Mirror stories of a 21-date tour via the medium of art – a Photoshopped piece daubed with the rebuttal: "I have no desire whatsoever to desecrate the grave of seminal Manchester pop group The Stone Roses."
CityLife for one would just be happy to see Messers Brown and Squire end their 13-year feud - gigs or no gigs.
