Delphic to bring MIF's True Faith to a close
LIKE an indie-dance version of Doctor Who, Delphic are a band caught between past and future.
Self-appointed futurists with a desire to explore new sonic frontiers, the Manchester quartet have unfortunately grabbed more press headlines for being Eighties-pillaging imitators.
To be fair, Delphic have probably brought this upon themselves. An enigmatic image, low-slung basslines and a stoic indie-disco manifesto are the band’s main characteristics.
And, of course, all those things will be familiar to anyone who’s ever owned a New Order record (their early decent albums, at least).
Technicolored rave-up
Thankfully, if you’ve seen any of their amazing live shows in the past year, Delphic are less black and white nostalgia, and much more Technicolored rave-up.
Madchester electro-pop is their business, but Delphic earn serious brownie points for making it sound so refreshing and attuned to today’s dancefloor palette.
Early glimpses of their forthcoming debut album suggest a sort of White Lies with disco-balls and remixed by Klaxons; a band who are riding in first class, when other indie-dance chancers are scrambling in economy.
New single - and follow-up to the majestically blissful Counterpoint - The Momentary is another tantalising mission to make dancefloors go crazy.
Released on supercool French label, Kitsune, it's out on August 31.
Ahead of that and stellar appearances at Creamfields and Leeds festivals, the trio will play the Pavilion on the closing weekend of Manchester International Festival on July 18.
