Corner-ing the Fallowfield boho market

NOT content with already possessing two CityLife.co.uk Manchester Food & Drink Awards’ Bars of the Year in their armoury, the good folk behind Trof are making a bid for further gongs with their latest establishment, The Corner.

Sandwiched between the bustle of Wilmslow Road and the student utopia of Landcross Road, The Corner joins a stable, which already houses the original Trof hangout in the Northern Quarter and Grosvenor Street’s beloved Deaf Institute.

Décor wise, The Corner is completely at odds with its predecessors.

There’s no expensively lavish floral wallpaper and drape curtains here, in fact, to the untrained eye you could accuse the Fallowfield bolt hole of decking out its interior from the contents of a nearby skip.

Unorthodox

But, as with any bar aiming to standout from the crowd, the bods behind The Corner have decided to take a unorthodox approach to design, which explains the mannequin torsos stapled to wall and the rough and ready furniture.

And despite still sensibly offering cheap drinks to lure the students in, the promoters promise they’ll be ‘no Oasis on the stereo or dudes trying to sell you roses’.

Only open in the evenings but compensating by staying that way until the wee small hours, in the forthcoming weeks expect performances and DJ sets from Manchester clubbing luminaries such as Hit&Run, Monday Murkage, Micron, Sex With Robots, Hoya:Hoya and Groovement Radio.

Another intriguing reason to decamp from the city and head south then…

The Corner is located at 254 Wilmslow Road, Fallowfield. www.cornercollective.co.uk.
