GOOD news for ardent Charlatans fans hoping to catch the indie-rock stalwarts in the north west this summer.

With a sporadic and scattered festival season ahead of them, which will take in shows in Dubai, Prague, Bucherest and Zagreb as well as closer to home sets in Brighton, Guildford, Leicester and Aberdeenshire, Charlies' fans were facing the prospect of digging out passports, sat-navs and camping stoves in order to catch the Britpop survivors in the coming months.

Thankfully though, a 30-minute pootle west and/or east will now only be necessary thanks to the addition of two new dates.

The veteran quintet - whose last LP, You Cross My Path, was given away free through Xfm in 2008 - will warm-up for their Summer Sundae show in Leicester on Saturday, August 15 across the Pennines at Holmforth's quaint Picturedrome the night before.

Prior to that, for those of you who come out in hives at the very prospect of leaving the Red Rose county for the White one, there's a rather genteel show at Haydock Races on Saturday, June 20.

Evergreen frontman Tim Burgess and the boys will take to the stage after the day's racing, which must be worth a flutter, hey?
