IN preparation for the August bank holiday weekend, Citylife recommends stocking up on lycra and wearing your underwear as outerwear. 

Now there's a sentence we never thought we'd have to write.

And no, this isn't because we've all gone GaGa over Lady G - it's because the theme for this year's Manchester Pride Parade is the mother, father and long-lost aunt of fancy dress: yep, you got it, heroes.

Festival manager Jackie Crozier said "we're looking for anything from superheroes to real-life heroes to heroes that are personal to the entrants."

"Whether it's fun, silly, or even dark and unusual," says Jackie, "all types of entries are encouraged." 

So whether it's Wonder Woman, Alan Partridge or beloved Uncle Rory who floats your boat, Citylife wants to see your costumes.  We'll be the ones on the Spiderman float.
