MANCHESTER has a number of bohemian pockets where creatives are beavering away on the sights, sounds and styles of the future.

Proving what it's made of in the art gallery at the end of this month, though, is Withington where a gang of painters, animators and photographers have come together to support their suburb - and a worthy cause.

The team of six artists were inspired to create Painting For Poverty by recent campaigns on climate chance and health care provisions by international charity Oxfam.

Bold

The 10 day show, at café bar Solomon Grundy, on Wilmslow Road, consequently features a diverse range of bold and striking images.

Featured artist Sam Alder said: “This is a perfect opportunity for artists in and around Withington to show their support for the work that Oxfam does around the world.”

Sam Alder specialises in film and animation, runs his own production company, Plastic Zoo, and has worked in music production and book illustration.

Delighted

Other names in the show include: abstract artist Chris Godber; Ruskin School Of Art graduate and illustrator Alex Howes; darkly humorous animator Scott Lockheart; sound and light artist Molly Macleod; and James Moss, who specialises in painting and digital prints.

The idea for the exhibition came from Nazia Toseef, manager of the Oxfam shop in Withington, and he is delighted with the response.

“This is amazing,” he said. “We've got some of the best artists in Manchester wanting to work with us and support Oxfam campaigns.”

Open at Solomon Grundy, Wilmslow Road, from March 27 – April 5 (11am-11pm).
