Oasis in MTV top ten, but lose out to Jacko and... Craig David!
FAMILIARITY may be said to breed contempt, but it doesn't seem to be the case when it comes to album polls.
As once again, Burnage boys Oasis have claimed positions in the upper echelons of another chart, this time for MTV.
The band’s mid-‘90s halcyon period spawned both seminal debut offering, Definitely Maybe plus (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? and MTV viewers have deemed both are worthy of places in their top ten at positions six and seven.
So which records finished above them you may ask… well largely it’s the usual suspects – Nirvana’s grunge landmark ‘Nevermind’, Gun N’ Roses’ rip-roaring Appetite For Destruction and Radiohead’s prog master-piece ‘OK Computer', with top spot understandably going to the biggest selling LP of all time, Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
That leaves one place and the Gallagher brothers and their fervent fanbase will be bemused to hear that securing second spot behind the King of Pop is early ‘90s soul offering, Born To Do It, from Craig David!
There was more good news for the Manchester music scene further down the poll though with The Stone Roses' eponymous Britpop blueprint (which is 20-years-old this year) and indie forefathers The Smiths’ The Queen Is Dead (for many Morrissey and Marr's songwriting pinnacle) coming in at 13 and 15 respectively.
