Elbow and Oasis triumph at NME Awards
BURY rock heroes Elbow kicked off the Shockwaves NME Awards in London with a triumphant live show and were honoured in a special award for their outstanding contribution to British music.
And Burnage’s Oasis were named the Best British Band in a great night for the north west.
Elbow were joined on stage by a 20-strong orchestra to perform their single, Grounds for Divorce.
Oasis, who were nominated for seven awards including worst band Jonas brothers scooped that one), were unable to be collect the award themselves as they were on tour.
Worst band
Liam and Noel Gallagher sent an acceptance video featuring themselves along with controversial comedian Russell Brand.
Oasis were nominated in seven categories, including Best Band and Worst Band, but their Dig Out Your Soul lost out in the Best Album category to Kings of Leon's Only The Night.
Muse also pipped them for Best Live Band.
Consolation for Noel came with a gong for the for the best band blog.
