MANCHESTER Architecture And Design Festival (MADF) is to hold a taster evening at Urbis on Thursday (March 19), offering a preview of festival events to be held during April and May; and giving the city's creative community a chance to become involved.

The festival, to be held between April 20 and May 23, will feature lectures, awards, exhibitions and events to celebrate Manchester's architectural heritage and progress. It has been timed to coincide with Manchester School Of Architecture's events month - and it is hoped that it will become an annual event.

"We want to raise awareness of architecture among the general public in Manchester and promote new links in the city's creative industries," says Simon Green, president of Manchester Society Of Architects (MSA).

Working relationship

"MADF is intended to encourage interaction between members of the architecture and design community in Manchester and engage architects throughout the region; as well as establishing a working relationship between practicioners in Manchester and students at the Manchester School Of Architecture."

The festival is the result of a collaboration between Manchester Society Of Architects (MSA), Centre For The Urban Built Environment (CUBE), Manchester School Of Architecture, Manchester Student Society Of Architecture (MSSA), Manchester Young Practicioners In Architecture (MYPA) and RIBA North West (Royal Institute Of British Architects).

A full list of festival events is included below and will be extended as further details become available.
