DAVE Gorman, it’s fair to say, is not a comic afraid of setting himself a challenge or two.

Meeting namesakes in far flung corners of the world? Pah, what else have you got? Google-whacking his way around the globe to avoid writing a novel? Been there, done that. Crossing America west-to-east avoiding spending money in chain stores and hotels? In the bag.

So when faced with the prospect of heading out in the UK tour circuit for the first time in five years, nobody expected the intrepid performer to drive between dates, leaving healthy distances of time to recover between each one – that would be plain silly.

And they were right not to. As the 38-year-old Stafforder and former Manc resident will be cycling venue-to-venue and hoping to stand-up when he gets there.

Entitled Dave Gorman: Sit Down, Pedal, Pedal, Stop And Stand Up, this is no short jaunt around the Midlands or the South East either, as, as ever, Gorman will be throwing everything he's got into this challenge.

Kicking off in Cornwall at the end of August, he'll peddle his way all over England - arriving at Salford's The Lowry on September 13 - before eventually resting his weary legs in the northerly outpost of Lyth in Scotland a month later.

He's not the whipper-snapper who took on the madcap challenges before either, Gorman's 38 now and he really should know better.

But like every great British eccentric, Gorman is rapidly becoming a national treasure and that's why his fans will flock to see him in 2,000-seater theatres, village halls and even a railway dining car on this tour - 1,500 miles in 33 days performing 32 gigs.
