Funkademia to start party at Gin Club

NOT, as the name might suggest, a regular boozy session for Corrie’s Liz McDonald and Deidre Barlow, The Gin Club is the hippest new bar on the Fallowfield block and will now play host to the official pre-party for long-running funk and soul club night, Funkademia.

The One Central club night has been on the look for a new warm-up bar ever since Withington’s Pleasure shut and the Wilmslow Road joint is happy to fill the gap.

Apparently boasting a cocktail range to give the Northern Quarter mixologists a run for their money and from the makers of One Lounge Bar in West Didsbury, The Gin Club is said to be New York meets Portobello Road.

Heading up the night on a weekly basis will be Les Croasdaile of Yellow reunion and Stylus fame.

He will be joined by Funkademia DJs who will combine to play classic tracks from Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding and James Brown mixed with the more contemporary sound of the likes of Mary J Blige, De La Soul and Arrested Development.

With discount tickets for the main club, The Gin Club is aiming to be the perfect place to get the Saturday night party started.

Funkademia Pre-Party launches on Saturday, February 7 at The Gin Club. 9.30pm – 12.30am. Free entry.
