Kloot draft in Elbow for new record
THEY say it’s who you know, don’t they? So when cult Manchester trio I Am Kloot set aside some time to record an album to celebrate their 10th anniversary as a band, who better to call in for production duties than two of Mercury Music Prize-winning outfit Elbow?
Of course, the Bury veterans have been longstanding friends of the Kloot boys and produced their debut offering, Natural History.
Elbow frontman Guy Garvey and keyboardist Craig Potter (himself no stranger to a mixing desk, he’s produced much of the band’s back-catalogue) got to work with frontman John Bramwell and Co in Stockport’s Moolah Rouge in the first week of January and the album, tentatively titled, The Sky At Night, is due out later this year.
On the sessions Garvey said: “Producing Natural History was one of the most gratifying experiences of my life.
“So when they invited us to produce this record I was overjoyed. Craig being involved is perfect because he actually knows what he is doing.
“Moolah Rouge is a perfect space to make a record. It is a state of the art studio but well worn and authentic – it’s just my kind of toy shop.
“As for the songs; they are John's best. Listening to the demos was like being jostled by gentlemen thieves. I looked down and my heart was gone; and my f**king wallet!"
Potter added: “I’ve been a huge fan of Kloot from the very beginning and I'm very exited to be working with them.
“There's a great buzz around the studio and having been in the lucky position of hearing the new songs - I'm very confident that this is going to be a very special record indeed."
Kloot will be premiering new songs from this forthcoming album at a one-off Manchester show at the Academy 3 on Valentine’s Day, which is becoming something of a tradition of Bramwell, he did at date at Night & Day last February 14.
I Am Kloot play Academy 3 on Saturday, February 14. £14. Call 0161 832 1111.
