Karolyn Judge's top five
Jay-Z @ M.E.N. Arena - Appearing on the back end of the Glastonbury fuss, the excitement generated by arguably the best rapper alive was only built on by appearances by Mark Ronson, Wiley and surprise guest Kanye West.
Solange @ Ruby Lounge - A sassy and soulful performance that reminded me of my dad's ‘60s and ‘70s Motown records.
Sarahbeth Tucek @ Night & Day - Her intensity and haunting lyrics, accompanied by a fantastic band, particularly the lead guitarist, was a good start to the year.
Massive Attack @ Castlefield Arena - This took a while to get going but the second half, accompanied by the thought provoking, politically charged live art, Unfinished Symphony and Horace Andy, more than made up for the slow start.
Busta Rhymes @ The Sheridan Suite - From wanting to see him since being a teenager, he didn't disappoint in satisfying my expectations of proving that hip-hop can be done well if you understand that it's simply all about entertaining, clever rhymes and some dope beats that make people dance.
